The O.Y.S.T.E.R. Report | May

Field notes on local happenings, must-try recs & oyster-related finds.

O | OUT & ABOUT

There’s so much happening around town in May…here are just a few suggestions. You could watch Jaws at the Misquamicut Drive-In Theater, pick up some plants at the URI Spring Plant Sale, shop small at the Matunuck Spring Stroll, and of course slurp oysters at the Bowen’s Wharf Oyster & Chowder Festival.

Y | YOU NEED THIS

If you’re a cooked oyster fan, this Cast Iron Oyster Grill Pan is perfect for grilling season. We also just restocked our Shucking Blocks, which have proven very popular amongst oyster-shucking novices. (& Don’t forget about Mom - she probably wants oysters for Mother’s Day).

S | SUPPORT LOCAL

Need breakfast, lunch, or ingredients for dinner? Quonnie Farms in Charlestown has it all, along with delicious homemade sourdough bread, flowers and local goods.

T | TUNE IN

We’re getting into the summer vibes with The Elovators Radio. We’re also big into Podcasts and have been tuning into OYSTER-Ology with Kevin Cox.

E | EATS & DRINKS

Go to High Hope Tavern in Westerly for the best Caesar salad you’ll ever have. We seriously love everything on the menu, but would recommend ordering the mussels, fries, griddled banana bread, and a dirty martini. (They also do an oyster happy hour during the week and you can find Breachway Oysters on the menu).

R | READ ALL ABOUT IT

The Joy of Oysters is a great book that has a little bit of everything - oyster facts, history, recipes, how-to’s, and great imagery.
