The O.Y.S.T.E.R. Report | June

Field notes on local happenings, must-try recs & oyster-related finds.

O | OUT & ABOUT

While we’re sorry to say that we won’t be selling our oysters at any farmer’s markets this season, we still enjoy swinging by the Summer Market at Tilted Barn, Casey Farm Market, and the RI Grown Farmer’s Market at Fisherman’s Memorial to grab some local goods.

Y | YOU NEED THIS

These Toadfish Oyster Knives are a high quality, ergonomic knife that we’ve recently added to our collection (heads up - the Pro Edition has a pretty sharp tip). Toadfish has other neat products like these Non-tipping Can Coolers for the boat, and for every product sold, they plant new oyster beds to help clean coastal waters around the U.S. Double neat!

S | SUPPORT LOCAL

Our friends at Sunset Farm pop up at nearly every festival and food truck event that you can find (we’re big fans of their Brisket Grilled Cheese), but we also recommend visiting their farmstand in Narragansett for locally grown produce and their own pasture-raised beef.

T | TUNE IN

Don’t let the clickbait-y title throw you…our favorite YouTube channel, Best Ever Food Review Show, follows the host Sonny on wildly entertaining global food adventures. Highly recommend tuning in.

E | EATS & DRINKS

We recently visited Haring’s in Noank CT, and it’s a place where we really wanted to order one of everything. We’re always on the hunt for food with flavors that we’ve never tasted, and Haring’s nailed it - highlights includ the Scallop Crudo, Broiled Sea Scallop, Lobster Bisque, and the Hot Buttered Lobster Roll. FYI - it’s BYOB.

R | READ ALL ABOUT IT

For any history buffs out there, The Big Oyster: History on the Half Shell by Mark Kurlansky uncovers the interesting past of the rise and fall of the almighty oyster in New York City. It’s an engaging read with recipes, illustrations and maps throughout.
